The provincial government of Sulu delivered its second wave of support as part of their ongoing efforts to help the rebuilding and rehabilitation process of Zamboanga City.

Braving a naval blockade and heightened security measures, a delegation of local women leaders of the Sulu Provincial Women Council, led by Hja. Indah Tan, turned over a cash donation worth Php 1 million to City Mayor Beng Climaco Friday, December 20.

Aside from the cash donation, the delegation also turned over 6 trucks of assorted relief goods, estimated to be worth approximately Php 1 million. These goods were donated by various Sulu-based organizations who continue to heed the call for help for Zamboanga City, added Tan.

“We would like to thank the women of Sulu for another turnover. They were with us at the height of the siege, and they are still with us today,” said Mayor Beng Climaco who gratefully received the donations on behalf of the City Government of Zamboanga. Accompanying the Mayor was City Councilor Myra Paz Abubakar and newly-elected Liga ng mga Barangay president Gerry Perez.

In response, Tan said that they will continue their efforts to support the City.

“Anytime na kailangan niyo kami, we are here to help,” she said.

To date, the province of Sulu has donated approximately Php 5.2 million to the City, having earlier donated Php 3.2 million at the height of the crisis.  — Jasmine Mohammadsali
