Mayor Beng Climaco Friday morning convened an executive meeting with the security sector to discuss the progress in the investigation relative to the abduction incident involving an elementary school teacher in Limaong, some 83 kilometers east of the city.

The executive meeting was purposely to get updates on the operations undertaken by authorities to secure the safe recovery of Sibogtok Elementary School (in Barangay Limaong) Cathy Casipong, who was snatched by armed men while on her way to Vitali aboard a motorized banca at past 3pm Wednesday, December 18.

The security sector is a committee under the Crisis Management Committee that included City Police OIC Director Chief Supt. Mario Yanga and his Deputy, Supt. Diomarie Albarico and Task Force Zamboanga Chief Col. Andrelino Colina, represented by Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Alberto Valencia and the TFZ Operations Officer. Also present were City Division of City Schools OIC Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad and City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr.

Mayor Climaco is saddened by the incident and hoped that Casipong will be safely released without ay condition, as soon as possible.

She tasked police and military authorities to do everything possible and ensure the swift resolution of the case.

During the meeting, the mayor assigned Natividad to be the sole spokesperson for the particular incident. She directed the OIC Division Superintendent to closely coordinate with the police and military for the release of timely and accurate information.

Reports indicate that some suspects have already been identified and that charges are being readied for filing in court.

Based on witnesses’ accounts, the police said, the suspects and their hostage, aboard bancas sailed towards the Eleven Islands and possibly on the way to Basilan or Tungawan in Zamboanga Sibugay right after the incident last Wednesday. — Sheila Covarrubias
