With just two days before Christmas, City Mayor Beng Climaco took time out from her schedule to visit and spread a little holiday cheer to the children, the women and the elderly currently sheltered in the different centers in the City yesterday, December 23.

Laden with Christmas gifts, food treats and fruits, Climaco first visited and joined the Christmas party celebration of the children and women of the Social Development Center (SDC) and the Women Crisis Center.

The SDC currently caters to 73 orphans and abandoned children. On the other hand, the Women Crisis Center is responsible for the care of 36 women and their dependents.

In the afternoon, the Mayor proceeded to the Home for the Elderly in Talon-Talon. The Home, which looks after the welfare of 45 elderly wards, is jointly managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites.

Aside from the children and the elderly, Climaco also dropped by to visit the marine unit stationed at the Sunken Garden, and the Zamboanga City Jail. Before leaving, Climaco shared boxes of coffee and canned soda drinks as simple tokens of appreciation and gifts for the holiday season. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
