Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday urged the executive officers of the Zamboanga City Homeowners & People’s Organization Federation, Inc. (ZC-HPOFI) to stay united and apolitical.

Lobregat issued the statement during the induction of the ZC-HPOFI officers at the City Hall conference room where he cited an incident last year wherein the city’s urban poor groups was politicized by certain quarters.

“I hope it will not happen again. You should remain neutral especially during elections,” the mayor told the urban poor federation officers who in turn assured him that they will stay away from politics.

It will be recalled, the urban poor now numbering almost a hundred organizations in the city was a victim of political maneuverings by certain quarters during the May 2010 elections.
This, after a political group had intervened in the election of last year’s urban poor officers in a bid to get the support of the group, thus creating a problem among thousands of members.
“In fact, after the May 2010 elections, one of the urban poor officers admitted to have supported another political group because they promised housing units. She cried and apologized to me,” the chief executive said.

This year’s ZC-HPOFI officers are: Violeta S. Alejandro, president; Ernesto R. San Antonio, vice president; Elena R. Babol, secretary; Celedonia S. Cabang, treasurer; Lydia T. Ramirez, auditor; Helen L. Salimbot and Editha A. Talosig, PIO. The Board of Directors is composed of Marissa Aizon, Fidel Undag, Sonny Jose Francisco, Alfreo Gaganting, Rodella Callao and Arlene Miguel.

Also inducted were officers of the Integrated Muslim Christian Federation of Zamboanga City, namely: Ma. Elizabeth Ruste, president; Anaji Ammak, vice president; Jocelyn Bucoy, secretary; Susan Jasmines, treasurer; Basir Basiri, auditor; and Felisa Fernandez, PIO. The directors are Virginia Sahirin, Christopher Tale and Marichu Diniay.

Likewise, Lobregat also swore in the Communidad delos Lideres Multi-Purpose Cooperative officers. They were Fidel Undag, chairman; Vicente Duran, vice chairman; and directors Eduardo Baird Jr., Jusima Quiñones and Ma. Elizabeth Ruste.

The induction ceremony was coordinated by the city government’s Housing and Land Management Division headed by Rodrigo Pagotaisidro. — Vic Larato
