Top ASG operative arrested in Sulu PDF Print E-mail

A ranking Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) leader was arrested during operations on Marites St., Barangay San Raymundo, Jolo, Sulu Wednesday afternoon.

Arrested was Haik Asgali alias Abu Aswad. Hhe was nabbed around 5 p.m..

Aswad was tagged as the head of the ASG unit that abducted two European birdwatchers in Tawi-Tawi in 2012.

His arrest was covered with warrant of arrest Number 3608-1164.

Aswad served as trusted operative of ASG Leader Radullan Sahiron in Patikul, Sulu.

Seized from his possession during the arrest were large amount of ammunition and explosives. He was placed under custodial  debriefing and investigation.

Government forces who participated in Aswad’s arrest were men of the Office of the Chief PNP Special Project MKI, Philippine Center  on Transnational Crimes Western Mindanao Office, 2nd Marine Battalion Landing Team, Intelligence Group of 2nd  Marines Brigade, MIG 9 and PAOCC. — Allen Abastillas
