The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) issued another Decision on ERC Case No. 2012-046 RC dated October 10, 2013 approving the collection of Php 0.0381/kWh Universal Charge for Missionary Electrification (UC-ME) to recover for Calendar Year (CY) 2010 shortfall.

The Missionary Electrification Charge is the cost associated with the provision of the basic electricity services in unviable areas with ultimate aim of bringing the operations in these areas to viability levels.

“The recent ERC decision caught us off-guard, ” said Zamcelco General Manager George G. Ledesma.

Recall that on December 17, 2013, Zamcelco started its information dissemination campaign on the additional Php 0.0017/kWh to be billed for the UC-ME starting January 2014.

In his letter to Ms. Lourdes S. Alzona, Vice President for Finance of the Power Sector Assets & Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) dated December 26, 2013, Ledesma said that: “With this new development, our member-consumers would surely wonder why in a short span of time, there is another increase while the first is still to be collected in January 2014.”

“At any rate, we are hoping that our valued member-consumers will cooperate and everybody will respect the ERC decision of which Zamcelco  is duty-bound to implement by collecting the amount of Php 0.1561/kWh intended for the UC-ME this January 2014.
