The Local School Board (LSB) led by Mayor Beng Climaco Thursday condemned the abduction of teachers the latest of which is that of an elementary school teacher in Barangay Limaong east of this city.

At the same time, the LSB called on the Department of Education (DepEd) to come up with policy directives for barangay officials, parents and community to ensure teacher safety especially in far flung areas so as not to hamper education of pupils.

Mayor Climaco convened the LSB Thursday morning and the abduction of Sibogtok Elementary School teacher Cathy Casipong was one of the top agenda. Casipong was snatched by armed men while on her way to Vitali aboard a motorized banca at past 3pm December 18.

Reports show that Casipong has contacted her superiors in Vitali to inform them that she is in good condition.             Mayor Climaco is saddened by the incident and hoped that Casipong will be safely released without any condition, as soon as possible. In a meeting with the security sector recently, she tasked police and military authorities to do everything possible and ensure the swift resolution of the case.

Casipong’s abduction has caused the suspension of classes in Sibogtok as teachers are reluctant to report to school due to security reasons.

City Schools Division OIC Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad, designated spokesperson for Casipong’s abduction incident said students’ education is adversely affected due to the incident. — Sheila Covarrubias
