Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday said the transfer of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) detainees from Zamboanga to Taguig, Manila was necessary because of security risks.

The mayor has written President Aquino and coordinated with the Courts, Cabinet secretaries and other officials concerned to ensure that the transfer take place the soonest possible time.

The over 200 detainees, who are facing charges for the 23-day conflict in the city last September, were transferred from local jails to Manila Friday dawn by virtue of a Supreme Court order. It was hastened by the City Government’s proper and prompt coordination with authorities concerned.

“We are for the transfer of the MNLF detainees as they await hearing. Justice has to be service and this in honor of the people who lost their lives, people who lost their homes and people who continue to suffer because of the September attacks,” Mayor Climaco stressed.

She vowed to do everything possible to always ensure the safety of the citizens and allaying fear of attacks and rescue of MNLF detainees by their comrades.

But the mayor emphasized: “We always cooperate and work hand in hand with all authorities as we rely on them to keep Zamboanga City safe.” —Sheila Covarrubias
