The Department of Justice (DOJ) will give protection to the two witnesses in the killing of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur Mayor Okul Talumpa at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Friday said that she has ordered the program director to place the two unnamed witnesses under the Witness Protection Program (WPP).

De Lima added that based on the testimony or sworn statement of one of the witnesses, he was some just three feet away from the victims when they were fired upon by a lone gunman.

De Lima said the witness allegedly heard the gunman even said “Mayor-mayor para kay Kitty Nandang”.

The suspect was apparently referring to the losing candidate, Wilson Kitty Nandang, who lost to Mayor Talumpa in the May 13, 2013 elections. --PDS/PTR/UTB
