The Land Transportation Office-9 will create an “ Anti-Smoke Belching Unit” to deal exclusively on smoke belching motorvehicles in the region.

The creation is part of the campaign against violations of Republic Act. 10054. otherwise known as the “Clean Air Act”.

LTO-9 Director Aminola P. Abaton disclosedthat creation of the said unit is one of the directives of  LTO chief Alfonso V. Tan  Jr. for the full implementation of the Clean Air Act in 2014.

According to Abaton, the LTO central office will acquire an equipment that will determine if a motorvehicle is violating the law.

Other LTO  priorities in 2014 are the full implementation of the Helmet Law (R.A 10054) and the Anti- Drunk Law known (R.A. 100586) — both for the preservation and protection of life.

In addition, LTO will streamlinethe process of registration, renewal of motorvehicles documents.

New motorvehicle registration will be at regional offices and renewal of registration will be in District Offices.    Meanwhile, the rehabilitation of the Zamboanga City District Office will be carried out in the first quarter of 2014. — Allen Abastillas
