Beng, Celso, Lilia lead 117th Rizal Day event PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Beng Climaco and the city’s two congressional representatives — Cong. Celso Lobregat of District I and Lilia Nuño of District II will lead the city’s commemoration of the 117th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal today, Monday, December 30 at the Rizal Shrine fronting City Hall.

The program will kick off at 7am with the prayer and flag raising rite.

Jointly organized by the City Government and the Order of the Knights of Rizal-Zamboanga City Chapter, the program will revolve on the theme “Rizalism: The Key to Global Peace, Solidarity and Prosperity”.

Mayor Climaco and Domingo Falcasantos, Knights of Rizal Area Commander for Western Mindanao will lead the hoisting of the flag while the Zamboanga City High School-Main choir will lead the doxology prior to the   flag raising ceremony.

Cong. Nuño will give the opening remarks and Falcasantos will declaim Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adios”. Cong.  Lobregat will give a brief message while Mayor Climaco will give the inspirational message.

Expected to join in the activity are  representatives from national and local government agencies, non-government organizations including military and police authorities, private  institutions and other groups.

Per directive from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), flags in all offices should be flown at half mast. No cockfighting activities are also allowed today, despite it being declared a non-working holiday nationwide.

The Rizal Day commemoration activities will be held simultaneously with the rites at the Rizal National Monument in Manila, in Baguio City and other parts of the country.
