Police Regional Office 9 Director Chief Supt. Elpidio Z. De Asis Jr. has deployed more police troopers in the barangays of Muti and the vicinity of Marangan to ensure that motorvehicles going in and out of Zamboanga City are safe.

The deployment of police troopers in the said areas came after gunmen sprayed a bus and a truck with bullets at dawn Thursday wounding 2 persons.
The deployment is also a strategic move relative to the ongoing military operation Abu Sayyaf gunmen who were spotted in Sacol Islands

“We will validate the information and its veracity,” De Asis said, referring to information that the  “strafing” incident in Marangan had something to do with extortion.

De Asis said the police troopers are tasked to secure the areas so that business activities will not be hampered and daily activities of people going in and out of Zamboanga City will continue.
He directed City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo to put random patrol and checkpoints in coordination with the military.

Meanwhile, De Asis disclosed that PRO-9 will recruit 347 policemen. Acceptance of applicants is now open. They can submit their documents for the processing for neuroexamination and interview. The new quota was given by Camp Crame. Oath taking will be on June 1,2011. — Allen Abastillas
