The City Government has set a simple yet meaningful activity to mark the 10th death anniversary of Mayor Maria Clara “Mam Caling” Lobregat on Thursday, January 2.

Mam Caling, the city’s 19th mayor passed away due to cardiac arrest on January 2, 2004 at a Manila hospital. She was on her 2nd term when she passed away.

The commemorative activity will start with a mass at 8am at the St. Joseph Church in Nunez Street. It will be followed by a floral offering and simple program at the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca.

Mayor Beng Climaco with former mayor and now District I Representative Celso Lobregat, son of the late mayor will lead the commemorative activity.

Prior to becoming mayor of Zamboanga, Mam Caling was the representative of the City’s Lone District of Zamboanga for 3 terms where she passed numerous laws that are now benefiting the residents of the city. Among these laws are the creation of the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority, the declaration of October 12 as a non-working holiday in Zamboanga in line with the celebration of Fiesta Pilar and numerous others.
