A group of  Zamboangueñas or Las Mujeres now based in Metro Manila cannot help but continue to admire the beauty and tranquility of Zamboanga City notwithstanding the destruction brought about by the infamous Zamboanga siege last September.

“There’s no place like home. Zamboanga is still the beautiful and peaceful city since we moved to Manila many years ago,” Joyce Sta. Ana said during the group’s courtesy call on Mayor Beng Climaco in City Hall yesterday afternoon.

Sta. Ana said she invited the Collegio San Agustin Parents and Abando Family to a tour of Zamboanga City to disprove the negative impression of some people about the city.

“We are here to prove to other people and the world that Zamboanga City is beautiful and peaceful. We are very impressed by what we have seen around and we invite other Zamboangueños in Manila and other places to come home see for themselves what Zamboanga City has become now,” she said.

The group also expressed its admiration for Mayor Climaco and the way she managed the city, especially at the height of the 23-day firefights between the government forces and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels last September.

“She really showed strength and courage but calm in spite of the crisis. She was and still is a powerful woman, a character that a leader of a city like Zamboanga must have,” declared Sta. Ana, an alumna of Ateneo de Zamboanga University. — Vic Larato
