Last month was filled with honor and recognition for Overseas Filipino Workers and their families as Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office IX (OWWA RWO-IX) celebrated its annual OFW Family Day.

In partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment, OWWA gathered hundreds of OFWs together with their families to give credit to the efforts of these heroes of today’s generation.

The theme of the event was “Parangal at Serbisyo sa OFW Hatid Natin Ngayon Pasko.” It was conducted at OWWA RWO-9 Compound, 3rd Floor, Goodwill Centre, Mayor Jaldon ST., Canelar, Zamboanga City.

OWWA RWO-9 Regional Director Hassan Gabra T Jumdain said in an interview that OWWA cares for the family relationship of its members hence the conduct of the event.

“This Family Day is a simple and noble tribute of the OWWA to the OFWs and their families here in the Philippines. It is an event where OFW and their families gather together and have fun. In simple words, it is their day.” Director Jumdain said.

Jumdain furthermore expressed his gratitude to the OFWs saying that this event is a gesture of gratefulness.     “Thank you for helping the Philippine economy improve,” he said.

OWWA conveyed that bringing families together after they have been separated for a while brings not only joy to their members but fulfillment to the entire agency being a welfare institution for the OFWs.

This Family Day is conducted annually by the OWWA to pay tribute to the OFW who have been working so hard far from their homelands to be able to provide for their families and contribute to our country.
