The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allocated P30 million budget for the implementation of the Summer Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this year here in the region.

DOLE Zamboanga Peninsula Director Sisinio Cano said this year’s SPES will benefit at least 11,985 college and secondary students in this region.

Cano’s office covers the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga and the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur.

Cano said the students who will be hired through SPES will work in different government and private offices for a period ranging from 20 days to 52 days.

He said they have yet to determine how many students will be employed through the program in a particular city or province.

He said each of the students will receive a daily wage of P280.

He said that DOLE will shoulder 40 percent of the salary while the 60 percent by the employers.

He said those interested to work through SPES may inquire at the Public Employment Service Offices in their locality or at the DOLE regional office. — RGAAGFFC/TPGJR/R.G. ANTONET A. GO/JSD
