The hilltop community of Luyahan, Barangay Pasonanca, this city played host to this year’s first “Dia del Alcalde,” a medical-dental outreach activity of Mayor Beng Climaco in line with her administration’s priority program on Security, Health and Education (SHE).

The “Dia del Alcalde,” which brings to the barangay the basic services of the city government for free, is usually held before, during or after the barangay’s or community’s fiesta celebration. In the case of Luyahan, Pasonanca, it will celebrate its feast of Sto. Niño tomorrow, Jan. 26, apart from Pasonanca’s main barangay fiesta in March.

Yesterday’s “Dia del Alcalde na Luyahan,” Mayor Beng’s first for 2014, catered to the medical checkups and tooth extraction of about 250 mostly indigent residents of the shantytown in Luyahan.

Most of those who availed of the medical checkups were women and lactating mothers together with their children. The male patients were more on tooth extraction and blood pressure monitoring.

Similar activity will be conducted in Sta. Maria as its barangay fiesta celebration is slated for Feb. 2. No definite date has yet been yet as of press time.

The “Dia del Alcalde” was first held sometime in August last year in Culianan, followed in San Roque, Canelar, Tumaga and last in Labuan sometime in Nov. 2013. — Vic Larato
