Operatives of the Sangali Police Station led by Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña under City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo seized four dump trucks loaded with sand and gravel in Cabaluay last Saturday.
Deocampo said that Acuña and his men were conducting visibility patrol in Sitio Barlak, Cabaluay when they spotted four trucks carrying sand and gravel that were taken from the land of Carlito Salvador.

Acuña stopped and asked them for any document from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources allowing them to quarry, but the drivers could not produce any.

Acuña identified the drivers as Nelvin Andico, 31, married, of Salaan, driving the truck with plate number ZLB 102, Alberto Loyola, 48, married, of Canelar Moret, driver of the truck with plate number JBM 499, Ronald Enopia, 33, married, of Salaan driving the truck with plate number GTC 973 and Geralado Miguel, 32, married, of Pasobolong.

Deocampo said the drivers violated a law on environment and natural resources and City Ordinance No. 2001-094 otherwise known as the sand and gravel and other quarry resources ordinance.
The drivers were placed under investigation while the trucks were impounded at the Cabaluay Community Police Action Center for safekeeping.

Deocampo said the police aside from implementing peace and order in the city, in close coordination with the city government and the DENR, are on crackdown against illegal quarrying activities in Zamboanga City. — Dan Toribio Jr.
