Six persons, three of them senior citizens, were injured after one of two men riding tandem on a motorcycle lobbed a grenade on San Isidro Labrador old church in Talon-Talon yesterday morning.

Injured were Fablito Mojares, Leonardo Sition, Felecita Tarro, all senior citizens, Ivan Tarro, a minor and Wendelyn Gandawali, passerby. They all sustained shrapnel wounds in the body and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Talon-Talon Barangay Chairman Teodyver Arquiza disclosed that the senior citizen group was having a meeting inside the old church at past 9 a.m. when two men aboard a motorcycle arrived and stopped in front of the main entrance of the church from where the backrider hurled a hand grenade.

It was learned that the grenade landed on the pavement and rolled and hit the door grill where it exploded.

The four victims except for Gandawali were sitting inside the church and were hit by shrapnel while the latter was passing outside the road where she was also hit by a shrapnel.

The grenade throwers sped off to an unknown direction after the incident.

Bomb experts described the grenade used in the attack as an ML2 fragmentation grenade.

Several months ago, another grenade attack took place at the same church but no one was hurt.

The old church in Talon-Talon is being used by senior citizens for their monthly meeting every first Sunday of the month.
