With the assumption of a new acting director for the Zamboanga City Police Office, Mayor Beng Climaco pushes for the immediate crafting of a comprehensive security plan for the city as she vowed the local government’s renewed support to peace-keeping efforts.

“We are very thankful that Col. [Angelito] Casimiro is assuming as the acting City Police Director and our marching orders for him is to sit down with Task Force Zambonaga so that together with Regional Police Office and Western Mindanao Command we will come up with a comprehensive security plan for the city,” Mayor Climaco declared.

PSSupt. Casimiro, former Ifugao Police Provincial Director, assumed as the acting Zamboanga City Police Director effective January 28 vice PSupt. Allan Nazarro who succeeded the post left vacant upon retirement of PCSupt. Mario Yanga on January 12.

As she called on authorities to come up with the City’s comprehensive security plan, the mayor likewise directed City Budget Officer Virginia Gara  to prioritize the inclusion in the Supplemental Budget the purchase of more vehicles for the police and Task Force Zamboanga for the conduct of regular patrols in both land and sea.

“We already gave Mrs. Gara the marching orders to prioritize the supplemental budget, and I hope I get the support of the [City] councilors for security, I want to include more vehicles for the police and for Task Force Zamboanga,” she emphasized.

The crafting of a comprehensive security plan for the city was one of the top agenda of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) during its meeting a week ago. A technical working group, led by the DILG City Office Director Atty. Mohammad Taha Arakama has been created to work on the consolidation/ integration of the security plans submitted by the different police and military units.

Mayor Climaco expects the active participation of the new police acting director in the crafting of the comprehensive security plan to help ensure peace and security in Zamboanga.

Security, along with Health and Education [SHE] are the priority thrusts of the Climaco administration, thus, various plans and strategies are undertaken to help in the effort to maintain peace and security in the city.

Last Wednesday night, the mayor along with City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. and other police and military authorities conducted a two and a half hour patrol of the coastal areas affected by the September crisis and noticed some gaps and hitches. Measures are underway to address these gaps.

“We are doing all these with the hope of strengthening security our city for the safety and protection of each and every constituent,” Mayor Climaco added. — Sheila Covarrubias
