Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday instructed newly-assumed City Police Acting Director PSSupt. Angelito Casimiro to take all necessary steps to ensure peace and order, stressing that the city is beset with security challenges.

“The challenges in security are very big and there is a bigger task at hand,” the mayor stated during the Monday flag raising ceremony in City Hall and attended by Col. Casimiro and his police officers and personnel.

Over the weekend, the city was struck by the grenade blast at a Catholic Church in Talon-Talon that injured five people including two senior citizens. Two weeks ago, the residence of an island barangay chairman in Mampang was also hit by a grenade blast.

She pointed out that Col. Casimiro has to immediately coordinate with Task Force Zamboanga to come up with the comprehensive security plan in cooperation with  the Police Regional Office and the Western Mindanao Command.

After the flag raising ceremony, Mayor Climaco met with Col. Casimiro at her office where they tackled about the prevailing peace and order situation and the new acting director’s plans to address security issues and concerns.

Casimiro, who assumed his post January 28 thanked Mayor Climaco and other officials of the city for the trust and confidence given to him for his return to Zamboanga. “I would like to thank the leadership of ZC for the trust and confidence that they have given me for my homecoming coz I have served ZC for the past 21 years.”

“I know I am filling in a very big shoe and a lot of people are expecting miracles from me but with God’s help, there is nothing impossible,” the acting director said.

Immediately upon his return to the Office, Col. Casimiro activated technical working groups to look into various issues, one of which is the crafting of the comprehensive plan headed by PSupt. Ruperto Salazar. — Sheila Covarrubias
