Police arrested two suspected extortionists in Barangay Ayala last Wednesday afternoon.

Arrested were Jomar Pillay y Jakarain, 21, married, of Barangay Lakiki and Gerwin Luania y Orrio of Sto. Niño, of Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte. They were nabbed by operatives of the Labuan Police Station and Ayala Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Chester Natividad and Sr. Insp. Edilberto Alvarez during an entrapment operation around 3:30 p.m.

DZT gathered that Pillay and Luania have been demanding protection money from the ‘D Biel Transit .They threatened the management of bomb attack if the bus company won’t give in to their demand.

Last Wednesday, policemen came up with an entrapment operation where Pillay and Luania chose Ayala as the payoff point.

However, during the operation the duo sensed the trap and tried to escape until a chase ensued.

When Pillay and Luania were approaching the shore, they were cornered and arrested by the police. They were detained at the Labuan Police Station pending the filing of charges against them in court.

Police were trying to determine if Pillay and Luania are linked to MNLF rebels who attacked the city on September last year. – Dan Toribio Jr.
