The Tricycle Adjudication Board (TAB) chaired by City Legal Officer Jesus Carbon has collected the total amount of P1,287,650.00 in franchise tax from 3,679 tricycles that renewed operation in Zamboanga City as of Jan. 22, this city.

A report showed that of the total collections, P27,300.00 represented the arrears from 43 units and P16,374.20 in surcharge and interest from arrears.

The amount of P18,300 was also collected from 115 units for change of ownership, and P560 for fare matrix.

Late registrations are going on, however, with the corresponding surcharges and interest as provided for under the ordinance.

This year’s franchise tax collections from tricycle operation are lower than last year’s P1,797,600.00 from 5,136 registered units.

The bulk of last year’s collections came from the arrears in the amount of P162,360.00, and P100,849.20 from surcharge and interest from arrears, P91,800.00 from change of ownership and fare matrix amounting to P24,800.

Meanwhile, the City Legal Office (CLO) played a significant role in the filing of charges against Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members who participated in the 23-day siege last September. It coordinated with and assisted the City Prosecutor’s Office not only during the filing of cases but even in the course of requesting the Department of Justice and the Supreme Court to transfer the trial to Manila.

As reflected in the executive summary for the Mayor Beng Climaco’s first State of the City Report last month, the CLO had caused the return of the 15% mobilization fee from unimplemented infrastructure projects and recovered P2,012,294.68 from three erring construction firms.

The same office likewise served notices to terminate to 25 construction firms with ongoing contract showing a reported negative slippage of at least 15% and filed complaints against, and imposed administrative fines on seven violators of City Ordinance 2001-094, otherwise known as the “Sand and Gravel and Quarry Resources Ordinance of Zamboanga City” as amended by 2012-162.
