3 killed, 5 hurt in Basilan clash, landmine explosion PDF Print E-mail

Two militiamen were killed while five others were wounded in clash with bandits, while a worker died after a landmine exploded in a rubber farm in Sumisip, Basilan yesterday morning.

Capt. Jefferson Mamauag, 1st (Tabak) Infantry Division spokesperson, said the encounter with the lawless group of “Kotatong Balaman” took place at Sitio Buhi, Barangay Sukatin, Sumisip around 6:30 a.m.

He said the bandits were 15 in number.

Mamauag said that soldiers from the 64th Infantry Battalion were patrolling in response to reports that Balaman’s group was conducting extortion and harassment operations on civilians in the area.

In the encounter that ensued, CAA (CAFGU Active Auxiliary) Duminta Gulinda and CVO Bejo Sampang were killed.

Wounded were CAA Almirin Pantao, CVO (Civilian Volunteer Organization) Omar Jadjales and CVO Oloy Malanji.

The wounded were immediately brought to Isabela City for treatment.

Mamauag identified the two wounded bandits as Samir Balaman and Apet Muril.

Hesaid that the latter managed to make a clean getaway with the help of their companions.

Pursuit operations were mounted by the soldiers against the fleeing bandits.

In the other incident, Mih Ustalin was checking rubber trees when a land mine exploded, killing him at a rubber farm in Barangay Mebak, Sumisip.
