At the age of 35, Bernadette died, After 54 years following the events of apparition, a papal investigation was founded.

After long deliberation and careful examination of the evidence it was declared that the visions of the Virgin Mary really did occur at the Grotto of Lourdes.

In 1933, under Pope Pius XI, Bernadette received beatification and canonization and was made Saint. From there on, Lourdes became one of the most popular locations of religious pilgrimage, especially for the sick.
