Citing the lessons learned from the Zamboanga siege last September, Mayor Beng Climaco has urged barangay officials to make security a priority in their respective development profiles, development investment and annual investment programs.

Climaco made the challenge yesterday morning as she addressed the first batch of barangay officials undergoing the first of a series of orientation and workshop on the preparation and updating of Barangay Development Profile (BDP), Barangay Development Investment Program (BDIP) and the Annual Investment Program (AIP) Program at Centro Latino, Paseo del Mar.

In her message, Climaco stressed the need for every barangay to follow the process of preparing its development profile and investment program, particularly on the basic rules and regulations in development planning.

“Through this orientation, you will be grounded because the actual development programs come from you and I urge all of you to make security a priority along with health and education,” the lady chief executive told the barangay officials.

This, she said, is in congruent with her administration’s priority programs acronymed SHE, which stands for security, health and education. “These are our main thrusts of governance and I hope you will also do this in your barangays.

Climaco likewise told the barangay officials not to hesitate to visit city hall, particularly her office, on matters pertaining to barangay affairs and other transactions.

“You are all welcome to my office for coffee and a little of something, but I really have a special office exclusively to attend to your needs because I consider you VIPs (Very Important Persons), Climaco said.

According to her, Executive Assistant Mario Roca is the person to see in city hall when it comes to barangay transactions while Max Bucoy is in charge of external affairs.

The orientation is being conducted by the Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator headed by Engr. Rodrigo Sicat in cooperation with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)- Zamboanga City Office represented by Jun Cillo.

The first batch of attendees were officials from barangays Tugbungan, Baliwasan, Canelar, Kasanyangan, Talon-Talon, Sta. Barbara, San Roque, Tetuan, Mariki, Rio Hondo, Baliwasan, Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3 and Zone 4. — Vic Larato
