Cop unhurt, but bystander hit by stray bullet in road ambush PDF Print E-mail

A policeman survived an ambush, while a bystander was hit by a stray bullet at junction of Talon-Talon Loop near the Petron gasoline station at noon yesterday.

PO3 Ricky Mahalahil of the Sacol Police Action Center was driving a motorcycle on his way to Arena Blanco when men aboard a red Honda Civic car opened fire on him. Mahalahil escaped unhurt despite the hail of bullets, but Guillermo Roxas y Enriquez, 39, a dispatcher  who was in the vicinity, was hit in the leg.

The assailants sped towards Tetuan after shooting Mahalahil.

Talon-Talon Barangay Chairman Teodyver Arquiza and some officials rushed to the scene after receiving report of the ambush.

Arquiza assisted Roxas who was still bleeding when they arrived at the scene until the latter was brought to the hospital aboard an ambulance. He was later declared ins stable condition.

Recovered at the crime scene were 27 spent shells and one live bullet of 5.56 caliber (M-16 rifle).

Men of the Tetuan police station went on hot pursuit operation for the arrest of the assailants. – Dan Toribio Jr.
