A military convoy coming from a tree-planting activity was ambushed by heavily-armed men at Sitio Bakud, Barangay Bid, Parang, Sulu killing one soldier and wounding three others around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A military report disclosed that the soldiers were not able to maximize their firepower during the ambush because it happened at a populated area where civilians might be hit.

The convoy was transporting AFP personnel who had just participated in a DENR organized tree planting activity at Parang Elementary School, some 15 kilometers from the ambush site. Also present during the tree planting activity were members of the Jaycees, Jolo chapter and other local stakeholders. The gunmen withdrew after a few minutes of exchange of fire.
