The Private Schools Athletic Association, Inc., (PRISAA) Regional Games 2014 officially opened at the Andres Bonifacio College (ABC) gymnasium  in Dipolog City the other day.

Almost a thousand athletes including coaches and technical officials  from the delegations of Isabela City, Pagadian City, Zamboanga City, Dipolog city, Zanorte and Dapitan city converged at the gymnasium for the formal opening of the 2014 Regional PRISAA Games.

A total of 18  sport and athletic events will see action for two-day sports activities. They include baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, football, sepak takraw, softball, volleyball, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, dancesport, judo, karate-do, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and the Search for the “Mutya Ng PRISAA 2014,” vocal solo and vocal duet.

This was followed by the hosting of Mayor’s Night being led by Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy, PRISAA regional officials headed by Regional/National Executive Director Elbert “Bong” Atilano and Regional PRISAA President Florentino Diana and technical officials.

Dipolog city Mayor Uy challenged and inspired the different athletic delegations.

“This regional games of PRISAA will enhance athletic skills and talents. Who knows the big names may emerge from our backyard with the neighboring provinces and cities in the region. Our city is envisioning by the year 2020 for Dipolog to be the ‘sports and event center of the south,” Uy said before a crowd of participants.

As of press time, Zamboanga City is leading in Regional PRISAA Games medal standing with the strong Zamboangueño athletes in Taekwondo emerged as champion during yesterday’s game with six gold followed by Pagadian City with 2 gold and three silver, Isabela City on the 3rd place with two gold and 2 silver while the host city of Dipolog placed 4th with one gold. — Monch L.
