A high-ranking Moro National Liberation Front rebel was shot dead by one of two motorcycle riding gunmen in Guiwan at dawn yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Jan Diman y Samson, 26, married, of Tigpalay, Zamboanga Sibugay. He was holding the rank of captain in the MNLF’s Bangsamoro Army. He was also a bus conductor of the Rural Transit Bus.

Diman sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.
Initial investigation disclosed that Diman was standing outside La Plaza Verde Lodging House around 1:15 a.m. when two men riding on a motorcycle appeared and the back rider suddenly drew a .45 caliber pistol and shot him several times.

The gunmen sped away after the victim fell dead on the ground.
Investigators recovered six spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Documents and identification cards recovered from Diman’s possession revealed that he was an MNLF captain and an area officer of BMA’s  56th Brigade based in Mindanao.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo said the Tetuan Police Station have started conducting thorough investigation for the immediate arrest of  Diman’s killers. — Dan Toribio Jr.
