House Resolution (HR) 302 calls for an investigation in aid of legislation on the reported decision of the government to terminate the GPH-Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF)-Organization of Islamic Countries Tripartite Review of the 1996 Peace agreement which  led to a military standoff between MNLF and government forces that resulted to a humanitarian crisis in the city. It is authored by Representatives Carolos Isagani Zarateo and Neri Javier Colmenares, all of Bayan Muna Partylist.

HR 416 on the other hand, directs the appropriate House committee to investigate, inquire and look into, in aid of  legislation, the true cause of the attack in Zamboanga City by the MNLF which triggered a crisis resulting to the loss of  hundreds of lives and the destruction of an or damage to homes, establishments and properties and the displacement of more than 120,000 people with the end in view of enacting remedial legislation to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future . The measure authored by Representatives Gary Alejano and Ashley Asedillo, both of Magdalo Partylist.

Cong. Lobregat’s privilege speech, meanwhile, seeks an inquiry into the September 9 siege as well as to look into the impact of the ongoing peace talks with the siege. The speech was delivered a few days after MNLF forces attacked 6 barangays in the city.  — Sheila Covarrubias
