Some 200 women leaders representing all sectors of the city are expected to participate in the Women’s Congress set today in line with the observance of Women’s month.

The congress, which aims to orient the participants of their rights and privileges, is an annual program carried out by the City Government of Zamboanga under the leadership of Mayor Celso Lobregat thru its Gender and Development (GAD) headed by Councilor Lilia Nuño as chairperson of the Committee on Women, Children and Family Welfare in coordination with the Local Council of Women chaired by Dr. Milagros L. Fernandez.

Mayor Lobregat is expected to attend the program as GAD Honorary Chairman to deliver the inspirational message.

Registration of the said assembly will begin at 8:oo in the morning to followed by a series resource persons to tackle varied subjects affecting women.

Dr. Milabel Ho is programmed to talk about GAD and Violence Against Women and Children, Director Geraldine Valbuena of Department of Social Welfare-9 will handle the Salient Features of GAD Code, Atty. Susan N. Delos Reyes will discuss the Salient Features on Republic Act 9262 entitled, “An Act Defining Violence Against Women and their Children, Providing for Protective Measures for Victims, Prescribing Penalties Therefore, And For Other Purposes”, and Atty. Eduardo F. Sanson is scheduled to discuss Republic Act 9208 otherwise known as “An Act to Institute Policies to Eliminate Trafficking in Persons Especially Women And Children, Establishing The Necessary Institutional Mechanisms for the Protection and Support of Trafficked Persons, Providing Penalties for its Violations, And For Other.”

March is observed as International Women’s Month where the City kicked off the observance thru a women’s march dubbed “Marcha de las Mujeres last March 8.”
