Elong opens ‘Champion of Champions’ cage tourney PDF Print E-mail

District 2 Councilor Roel “Ëlong” Natividad, chairman of the City Council’s Committeeon  Youth and Sports, formally opened the other day a basketball tournament dubbed as the battle among “Champion of Champions” as part of the “Dia De Zamboanga,” celebration.

The tournament is being held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Natividad thanked the City Government under the leadership of Mayor Ma. Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar for immediately approving the budget of four sport events including karatedo, basketball, table tennis and volleyball games as part of the “Dia De Zamboanga” activities.

“This is to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and to become busy in their daily life rathn than engaging in illegal drugs. This is one way or the other avoiding drug addiction in the city,” Natividad said.

The formal opening ceremony started with invocation led by BAP City Commissioner Fr. Jonathan Duka and the opening remarks by cage coordinator Jayson Cariaga. It was followed by the message and declaration of tournament open led by Councilor Natividad.

JORTZ Basketball Team defeated BRP 87-72 while Dropzone led a score of 74-63 against Rasdeen on the first day games.

The other teams will show action in today’s championship games which will start at 5 p.m. while the karatedeo competition  will also open today at exactly 9 a.m. at the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School (DPLMHS).

Meanwhile, Natividad also formally opened the Table Tennis tournament yesterday at the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School (DPLMHS) and the volleyball games at the Sta. Maria Central School Covered Court. — MLF
