Kidnapped student escapes from captors PDF Print E-mail

Lawmen rescued Friday afternoon in Barangay Little Baguio in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay an engineering student who was abducted by gunmen in Pagadian City on February 27.

The rescue operation was carried out by operatives of the Diplahan Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Raul Caraecle Cortes, under the supervision of Sr. Supt. Robert Roy V Bahian, Provincial Director, together with Mayor Cris S Jore of Diplahan municipality in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Stephen Tan y Manago, 19,  was seized by three gunmen in Barangay Gatas, Pagadian City around 9 p.m. while driving his metallic gray Ford car with plate number KGS 723.

Police Regional Office-9  Chief Supt. Juanito Vaño disclosed that Tan was able to escape around  1:30 p.m. after the his captors took off the blindfold while being kept in a safe house.

Vaño said that Tan jumped from a cliff trailing a river in Barangay Little Baguio in Imelda. He was chased by his abductors but he managed to hide amid bushes.

The police official added that Tan then sought the help of Clarito Ferrarin whom he was able to borrow a cellphone and immediately contacted his family who in turn informed and coordinated with the authorities of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province through the Municipal Mayor. Rescue operation was then immediately conducted by Diplahan Police Station that led to his (Tan) safe rescue.

Vaño said that Tan was brought to the office of the Municipal Mayor of Diplahan for proper disposition and debriefing and was subsequently turned-over to anti-kidnapping group (AKG) led by PO3 Rodel P Hupa, Mindanao Field Unit (MFU), Iligan City Satellite Office (ICSO) who will take cognizance over the case for proper disposition.

Authorities said that the kidnappers were members of the kidnap-for-ransom group based in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay victimizing prominent people.
