Preparations are underway for the conduct of Marcha de las Mujeres, an activity organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point and the Local Council of Women (LCW) in line with the observance of National Women’s Month this March.

Set on March 11, Marcha de las Mujeres will be themed “Mujer: El Fuerza di tuyo es el Fuerza de todo para lebanta y adelanta”. It will start at 6:30 am from Ledesma Street (fronting Bureau of Fire Station) enroute to Paseo del Mar where various activities will follow.

Councilor Myra Paz Abubakar, GAD vice chair and Dr. Mila Fernandez, LCW chair invite the different sectors to support the annual activity and help in the cause of empowering women.

Highlights during the activity are the forming of human symbol by women and Zumba after the march and the program and bazaar at 9am also at Paseo del Mar.

Councilor Abubakar and Dr. Fernandez said after the Zumba, participants will proceed to Centro Latino for the short program and the launching of the Bazaar/ wellness activity where invited concessionaires/ exhibitors will put on display for sale food products and handicrafts as well as provide foot spa, mani/pedicure and massage services.

Every year, the City Government’s GAD in cooperation with the LCW organizes the Marcha de las Mujeres activity, the proceeds of which is being donated to marginalized women groups, such as the breast cancer patients or the women inmates at the City Reformatory Center. — Sheila Covarrubias
