Another daylight shooting: Man from Jolo shot dead PDF Print E-mail

Gun violence continues in Zamboang City claiming the live of a man in another daylight shooting downtown yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Ismael Unga, a native of Jolo, Sulu. He sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body.

A police report disclosed that Unga was standing near the intersection of Corcuera and Rizal Streets when an unidentified man armed with a .45 caliber pistol appeared and shot him several times.

When Unga slumped on the ground, the assailant fled on foot towards Pettit Barracks where he engaged a SAF police trooper in a shootout. He nevetheless managed to escape.

Unga was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Recovered at the crime scene were eight spent shells of .45 caliber pistol.

DZT gathered that policemen have discovered Unga was exchanging text messages in his cell phone with an unidentified person before he was shot.

Police were looking into several angles in the killing.

The recovered spent shells were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examination and comparison purposes. – Dan Toribio Jr.
