A vice mayor from Basilan who was abducted in a downtown mall was reported to have been released amid questionable circumstances.

Police said Arsina Kahing Nanoh, vice mayor of Mutamad township in Basilan was reportedly freed in Pagadian City and was reunited with her family.

Authorities are checking on whether the incident was indeed abduction or just a hoax.

Nanoh was seized Tuesday at a downtown mall when her husband Alnajil left her alone to see a person in Baliwasan Seaside.

Alnajil told investigators his 20-year old  wife was no longer around when he returned to the mall.

The mall’s CCTV camera showed Arsina being escorted by two men outside going to the parking lot where they boarded a vehicle.

Alnajil told the police that when she called her on her cellphone, a man answered it, telling him they were holding Arsina.

Investigators were still working on the case.
