The construction of this city’s sanitary landfill Phase 1 has been completed and ready for use.

City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo said that they are only waiting for the formal turnover of the project to start using the facility.

Despalo said the Phase 1 of the sanitary landfill comes in two contracts worth P75 million.

The first contract involved the amount of P65 million for the construction of the first cell, lining facility, leachate collection and treatment facility.

The second contract worth P10 million is for site development to include administration building, roads, fence, and drainage system.

Despalo said the Phase 1 of the sanitary landfill composed of cell number one that has an area of two hectares.

Despalo said the first cell would be filled up in three years time providing sufficient time for the construction of the second cell.

The entire sanitary landfill has a total area of 10.6 hectares and will consist of four cells which can accommodate this city’s solid waste disposal for a period of 10 years.

The cost of the entire project is P300 million.— RGAAG
